What we aim for
We want this site to work with a keyboard, with a screen reader and with the settings you have chosen on your own device. That is not a certification, it is how we build it.
In practice that comes down to three things.
- Anything you can do with a mouse, you can also do with a keyboard.
- Everything you see is in the page as text as well, so a screen reader can read it out.
- Whatever you have set on your own device, from larger text to less motion, we leave alone instead of overriding it.
This page is about portano.nl, the site you are reading now. What it says about how we build applies to the ordering sites and apps we make for restaurants too. What is actually in there today is what we checked on portano.nl.
What the site does today
This is what is in it right now.
- You can tab through the whole site, and the order follows what you see on screen.
- At the top of every page there is a link that skips the menu and takes you straight to the content.
- Whatever holds focus is visibly outlined, so you can always see where you are.
- Set your system to less motion and everything stops. The card rows no longer scroll on their own, the tabs no longer switch on their own, and the animations are replaced by a still frame.
- The text is set as real headings and paragraphs, not as pictures, so a screen reader can read out how a page is built up.
- You can zoom in without text dropping away or sliding off screen.
- The colour contrast of text against the background was measured and adjusted where it fell short. It was not estimated by eye.
This list is a snapshot. If something about the site changes, we change it here.
What is not finished
This statement has not been formally audited. It records what we have done, not what an audit found.
What is above we built ourselves and checked ourselves. No outside party has gone through the site from start to finish. Until that happens we do not know exactly what still goes wrong, and we are not going to guess at it.
As soon as that audit exists, the result goes here, including if it comes out badly.
The European Accessibility Act
The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025 to services consumers buy online. Ordering online is one of them. We are working towards it.
Working towards it means we build to that standard, we fix what we run into, and we have it audited. Until that audit exists we do not say we comply. No level, no mark, no declaration of conformity.
Once the audit is done, this page will say who did it, when, what it covered and what came out of it. The points that are still open as well, with what we are doing about them and in what order.
We do not put a date on that. Better no date than a date we miss.
Tools in your browser and on your device
Some of what you need is already in your browser and in your device. Those settings simply work on this site, and there is nothing you have to switch on with us.
- Zoom. Your browser can make the whole page bigger. The text then rewraps to fit.
- Larger text. Set the text bigger in your system and the text on this site grows with it.
- High contrast. Your device can switch the colours to a view with more difference between text and background.
- Reader view. Because the text is set as real headings and paragraphs, your browser can turn it into a plain reading version.
- Less motion. That is a setting in your system, and this site listens to it.
- The screen reader built into your operating system. Every current operating system has one and there is nothing to install.
If one of these settings behaves differently on our site than you are used to elsewhere, that is on us. Let us know.
Parts built by others
Not everything you see on a page was built by us. Two parts come from outside and can behave differently from the rest.
- The map in the portal, where you draw your delivery zone, comes from a map service. It draws its own controls. On the pages your guests see there is no map from another party: a restaurant’s location is a still image the owner supplies.
- Your guest pays on our payment partner’s own page. That page is theirs. We cannot change anything about it.
If one of those parts blocks you, we want to hear it. We then look for another way to the same result, and we take it up with the party that built it.
Which data ends up with our payment partner is set out in the Privacy Policy. The map service in the portal receives no data about your guests.
If something blocks you
Mail hello@portano.nl. You can also call, on +31 6 87 83 83 18.
Say what you were trying to do and what happened. Name your browser and your device if you know them, and whether you use a screen reader or a setting from your system. Then we can reproduce it.
We get in touch within one working day.
First we make sure you still get what you needed, if necessary by arranging it for you from our side. The fix in the site comes after that. Someone who wants to order cannot wait until we have rebuilt a page.
If you are a guest at a restaurant that works with Portano and the ordering site gets stuck, you can mail us directly. You do not have to knock on the restaurant’s door first.
What we do with the data in your message is set out in the Privacy Policy.
